Safe beauty, the skincare trend that is here to stay

Protection is key for a new generation of cosmetics that are the answer to consumers’ needs

Priorities have shifted. New elements have been incorporated into consumers’ routines: masks, sanitisers, soaps, and all things touchless are now part of their lifestyles. The ‘clean beauty’ trend, popular in pre-pandemic times, has now evolved due to an increasing concern about contamination, and ‘safe beauty’ is the new trend that industry experts are talking about.

"While clean beauty was about natural ingredients with no additives and nontoxic chemicals, safe beauty adds elements such as formula protection, anti-microbial ingredients and hygienic packaging,” says Marcia Bardauil, Quadpack’s Market Insights Lead.

The Market Insights team has researched ‘safe beauty’ to better understand what consumers require from the cosmetics industry and how brands are responding.

Sanitisation – The latest beauty launches have a strong hygienic approach. From anti-microbial/anti-viral ingredients to touchless dispensers, these cosmetics promise to sanitise the skin with full formula protection. Clean usage is key, with emphasis on applicators (brushes, spatulas) and airless packs.

Protection – Hypoallergenic formulas with anti-pollution and anti-blue light protection are at the core of beauty brands’ ‘safe beauty’ launches. Their formulas are deeply rooted in efficacy and science-backed results, requiring contamination-free, airtight packs.

For both categories, airless packs are ideal solutions, as they protect the formula, providing clean and controlled application.
